Communication Arts i
This class opens their school year with an Adventure Unit, reading two fictional short stories, a non-fiction biography, watching a film based on the journey of a real man in the early 1990s, and the novel Lord of the Flies. They end this unit by writing their own adventure story and a comparison and contrast essay. They will then begin their WWII unit with Night, where they will be focusing on comprehension, text to self reflection, and historical context. They will finish this unit by writing a research essay on an aspect of WWII, then writing an informational speech about their topic to present to their classmates. As they school year goes on, students will read the Shakespeare play The Tragedy of Macbeth and Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird. Themes of ambition, mob mentality, and prejudice are explored throughout the year.
